Our Thanksgiving show. We’re not in the studio this time, but we’re airing “Marriage makes a word of difference” from the Love Makes a Family Foundation. While CT allows same-sex marriage, federal recognition, along with the rights and respsonibilities that go with it, are still denied to same-sex couples legally married in CT.

Kate Reymundi and Sandy Brandimour from the Allilance for Living join us to talk about the activities of New London counties only organization helping people with HIV and AIDS. This includes their program for Thanksgiving baskets, their Holiday giving trees to help the children of families dealing with HIV and AIDS, and the December 1st World AIDS Day memorial.

When asked what caused him to not stand up and recite the pledge, he answered
“Well, I looked at the end [of the Pledge of Allegiance] and it sayed ‘with liberty and justice for all’ and there’s really isn’t liberty and justice for all… Gay’s and lesbians can’t marry. There’s still a lot of racism and sexiam in the world.”
When his teacher started giving him grief after 4 days for exercising his first amendment rights and not standing up he “eventually, very solemnly, with a little bit of malice in my voice, said ‘Ma’am, with all due respect, you can go jump off a bridge.’”

The Alliance for Living will be holding a candle light walk and vigil in New London on December 1st to mark World AIDS Day. The walk will begin at the Soldiers and Sailors memorial in downtown New London at 5 pm and head up Broad Street to Williams Park and the Alliance for Living building.
